Tonight at 10:00 Zayha woke up, an unusual occurrence. He wouldn’t go back to sleep, so I fed him. On the one hand, I didn’t want to him to nurse because I didn’t want him to get in the habit of waking up to eat in the middle of the night. On the other hand, he’s a skinny muscular baby, and I think he needs more food.
When he fell asleep and I put him back in his crib, he settled down, noised a few syllables, sighed, and went to sleep. Just then, there was a long burbly sound.
I did NOT want to wake him up to change that diaper, but there was no way I could let him sleep in it.
I went back in the room, and spoke his name. His head popped up with that early-morning “Mommy’s here!” smile he started doing this week. He gurgled happily on the changing table, and I laid him back down in the crib.
I put him down on his back with his feet toward the bottom of the crib so he’d have plenty of room to (not) get his head stuck in the corner. He didn’t try to roll over, so I put the blanket on him.
He looked at me peacefully. I kissed him on the forehead and said, as I do every night, “Good night, sweet dreams, I love you.” He was quiet as I left the room.
My first kiss-him-on-the-head-and-leave-the-room tuck in of my child!
Wait, it’s 10 minutes later, and he started crying.  I guess it wasn’t...
A week later: It was a fluke...we’re still working on easy bedtimes...

First Tuck-in
